Construction photographs indicate a large "Beverly's" awning being erected near completion of construction on September 11,1928. The Grande building also sits at the corner of Grand River and Beverly Court !!
1930 City directories list Mr. Weitzman's residence in Highland Park and his business interests in surety bonds and ladies dresses. Also note architect Charles Agree is a partner in this charter business for the Grande retail space. It is possible that the architect also had an interest in the building proper. 1941 Directories list the Maas Brothers department store at 8960 and the Beverly dress store no longer appears at this address in photographs from December of 1944.
